Adult Programming

The Long Island Area Council (LIAC) has as part of its mission "to promote denominational awareness and effectiveness through communication, leadership and educational programs." Our guiding philosophy is that through offering programs for all Long Island congregations, we can serve the needs of many and foster communication, learning and action among and between congregations. The whole is larger than the sum of its parts.

In line with this mission, the Adult Program wing of LIAC, through its Educational Steering Committee, identifies and sponsors educational programs for adults primarily in the areas of Worship Arts, Religious Education, Social Justice, Governance and Leadership, Pastoral Care, Financial Stewardship and Sustainability, and Membership. The Social Justice Roundtable seeks to develop strategy, mission and purpose, increase community connections, cooperation among congregations, and visibility of LIAC among LI congregations and the LI community as a whole.  In the future additional groups may be added to the Adult Program wing, as needed.

LIAC has a long history of adult programming. Prior to the current Adult Program Steering Committee, there was LILI, the Long Island Leadership Institute. LILI was a multi-sessioned leadership program designed to create a pool of leaders within the Long Island congregations. Throughout its history LIAC has worked in consultation with and benefitted from the resources of the Metro New York District and now the Central East Region of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
